What are diazepam (Valium) side effects?

Some of the common side effects of diazepam are listed below. Tell your doctor if these side effects are severe or do not go away after a few days.

• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Fatigue
• Muscle weakness
• Dry mouth
• Headache
• Nausea
• Constipation
• Confusion
• Frequent urination
• Difficulty with urination
• Changes in sex drive or sexual function

Some of the adverse reactions to diazepam can be more serious. Please call your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical care if you experience any of the following side effects:

• Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, weak or shallow breathing
• Slowed heartbeat
• Uncontrolled shaking in any part of the body
• Slurred speech

Diazepam Overdose: In case of a known or suspected benzodiazepine overdose, call your doctor right away or go to the nearest emergency room. If a person cannot be awakened, has had a seizure, or has trouble breathing, call 911 immediately. Symptoms of a diazepam overdose may include drowsiness, confusion, fatigue, slowed breathing and heartbeat, and loss of consciousness.
